About Us

In 1982, Dr. Chris Moran launched the ‘Pain Relief And Management Association’ to offer help to recently discharged hospital patients in Dorset. At that time, support was provided from a few local church volunteers. Since then it has grown and developed into a thriving charity providing domiciliary care; the PramaCare of today.

In 2017, Prama created an Age Friendly Community, to some, a 'life line', otherwise known as Prama Life. Prama Life works in Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, and East Dorset, offering a wide range of activities and services which look to directly tackle social isolation and lead to increased personal independence, and help people enjoy life as they age.

Since then Prama has come a long way and whilst we still deliver Domiciliary Care across Dorset we now do so much more.

  • We act as a voice for issues impacting older people

  • We stand up for the Human Rights of Older people

  • We lobby for inclusive Age Friendly Communities

  • We support those Ageing Without Children

  • We work with disadvantaged and minority groups including BAME and LGBT+

  • We support those living with Acquired Brain Injury

  • We offer many in person and online support clubs tackling loneliness and isolation for older people

  • We run groups for those living with Dementia or who are struggling with their memory

Values at our core

We are recognised by the Care Quality Commission as providing high quality care, having achieved a "GOOD" rating overall and in all areas of inspection - except for Care, where they rated us "OUTSTANDING".  We invest heavily in the training and support of our staff, knowing that they are the people who matter most to our service users. However, the first step is to ensure that every member of the team is someone we would be delighted to have caring for our own families. To that end we hold firm to our founding values of Compassion, Helpfulness, Respect, Integrity, Sensitivity and Trustworthiness.

As part of Prama’s family of charities, we offer subsidised care to some of our clients, and the PramaLife Charity offers a wide range of community activities for older people.  Our aim is to provide support services which tackle social isolation and lead to increased personal independence, self-sufficiency, and dignity, including age-friendly and dementia-friendly clubs, carers’ support groups, community-based activities, and inter-generational activities.

Prama’s vision is ‘ a world where no-one is unfairly disadvantaged or excluded due to age or infirmity and where everyone can enjoy life as they age’.  Prama is actively involved in networks and groups that work towards the aim of including the Age-Friendly Communities programme, Aging Well Without Children and the United Nations Rights of the Older Person development group.

The people who care for you

We recruit for values and character and train for excellence. The first step is to ensure that every member of the team is someone who we would be delighted to have caring for our own families.

We then use our own in-house training team to teach the specific skills and procedures necessary to enable high quality care. Ongoing supervision and observations, together with specialist training modules, ensure that everyone is fully equipped to meet your needs.

We think good relationships help people thrive, so we aim to provide a consistent care team wherever possible, so that you get to know the people who are supporting you and they get to understand all about you and what make life good for you.

As you would expect, all our staff are DBS-verified as being suitable to work in care and references from previous employers have been fully checked. We have clear policies and procedures in place to keep everybody safe.

You will have a keyworker who will be one of your regular team, a locality care manager who develops your care plan and a Registered Service Manager who oversees all your care. We make sure you are in good hands - and our friendly Care Centre team are happy to help with any queries.

COVID-19

Our staff are rigorously trained in infection control and during a challenging time for our clients, we kept providing our 'outstanding' caring service.

PramaCare are committed to reducing the spread of COVID-19 for both staff and clients, for this reason, our team of Care Support Workers continue to use full PPE during visits and are committed to maintaining exceptional hygiene throughout.
